Business Trunks connect your analog PBX or key system to the public switched telephone network. Instead of paying for a dedicated line to each desk you have a pool of lines available for a fraction of the cost.
Business Trunks are similar to Business Lines except they are typically ground start as opposed to loop start. There are two types of trunks:
- Direct Inward Dial (DID) trunks–carry inbound calls to a direct extension, i.e. your callers can reach your desk directly, without the need for a receptionist or Auto Attendant.
- 2-way trunks–allow inbound calls to a pilot number; all outbound traffic will use these channels as well.
