Navigata Celebrates its 50th AnniversaryNavigata celebrates 50 years of delivering customized communications solutions to B.C. communities with strong rankings from prominent business magazineJuly, 2007 – Navigata is proudly celebrating 50 years of providing communication solutions to the British Columbia business community. With strong showings in Business in Vancouver’s annual rankings of B.C. companies, Navigata continues to demonstrate its commitment to B.C. businesses. Navigata was recently ranked among the top 10 B.C. telecommunications companies and in the top 50 high tech companies across the province. Navigata, a division of SaskTel, is based in North Vancouver, B.C. and offers a wide range of services including high speed Internet, hosting services, data networking, data centre co-location, managed security solutions, long distance and voice-over-IP solutions, including WebCall (www.webcall.ca) and Small Business Complete. Navigata’s Northern B.C. Initiative is delivering advanced communications services, including high speed internet, to remote northern communities. “We’re proud of our legacy of service to the people and communities of British Columbia and beyond,” said Navigata President and CEO Jim Pitt. “We come from a long tradition of finding innovative communication solutions for people. “Today we’re expanding across Canada and delivering the latest IP services to customers from Vancouver to Montreal, but we never forget our B.C. roots,” said Pitt. Navigata started in 1957 as the communication arm of BC Rail. In the 1990s, operating under the name RSL COM Canada, Navigata went global as technology and regulations evolved to make it possible to sell long haul transport of voice and data to companies around the world. Along the way, Navigata built one of the largest digital telecommunications networks in B.C. In 2001 SaskTel, a Saskatchewan-based full-service communications company, purchased RSL COM Canada and changed the name to Navigata. Doug Muir, Navigata’s Director of Network Operations, has been with the company for all but fifteen of its fifty years and recalls the days when they were selling space on their surplus microwave channels to B.C. Tel so they could deliver dial tone to remote regions like Whistler and Lillooet. “Navigata has always been one of a kind,” said Muir. “We pride ourselves on the custom made solutions we devise for our customers. The best example is what we did for the Nisga’a people up north. They live in a very remote region of B.C. and they wanted high speed internet connecting their communities to one another and to the world. We brought together the vendors, the local people and their government and we found a way to make it work.” About Navigata About SaskTel -30- For more information, please contact: |
