Navigata Celebrates First Week as an Independent Company

December 10, 2009

Navigata Communications 2009 Inc. ("Navigata"), a leading voice, data and Internet services provider, celebrates its first week of operation as a truly British Columbia-based, stand-alone company.

"This marks a momentous occasion in Navigata's 52-year history," says Peter Legault, President of the new company formed to acquire the Navigata assets and operations from Saskatchewan Telecommunications (SaskTel). "Although Navigata has deep roots in BC, this is the first time the company will have a local management team at the helm, driving its strategic direction." In its recent history, Navigata was a division of SaskTel, the incumbent telecommunications company in Saskatchewan. It was acquired by SaskTel in 2001 from RSL Communications Ltd., which had previously purchased the company, then known as Westel, from BC Rail in 1998.

"Our customers can expect a renewed commitment to developing services that help people better connect, collaborate, and communicate," says J. Owen Gilbert, Senior VP Sales and Marketing. "With a local management team and extensive network in BC and across Canada, our company is well-positioned for future growth."

The company plans to operate under the Navigata brand name, and will continue servicing its existing customer base of over 7,000 accounts.
